The site about the "Yonkers Experience"

Did you grow up in Yonkers?  Did you live here for awhile?  This is YOUR site, whether you were here 30 years ago, or yesterday.  If you have any pictures, or stories, about your past or current days in Yonkers, send them to us at youryonkers@yahoo.com, and we will publish them, or register, and post your messages in Our Forum!

DID YOU KNOW that Yonkers is the fourth largest city in the State of New York? It has a population of about 196,086. Our city borders the New York City borough of The Bronx, and is just 2 miles north of Manhattan, at its closest point.

Ok, so I haven't been around in awhile. I'm busy, and I have arthritis. 'Just sayin'.

It was GREAT seeing LAURENE and LANCE PRESTON, at my recent open mic, in Scarsdale, on August 22. Laurene asked if there were "any *future* youryonkers.com events?"

So, we have scheduled our ANNUAL DINNER (the term is used loosely here) for the RACEWAY DINER, on September 30, 2013, at 7:30 p.m. 'See you there!

In other news, PEPPY PALLADINO is still alive, and BRIAN ALAMA is still crazy. Other than that, I got nothin'.

Hello! 'Hope everyone is well.

Our thoughts, today, are with Jimmy Romeo, who is recovering from a recent illness. We hope he is continuing to feel better.

Our THIRD ANNUAL CELEBRATION is all set for February 10, at 7:00 p.m., at the SpotLite Cafe, 1109 Central Park Avenue, Scarsdale, NY. 'Hope to see some old friends there!

'Hope you enjoyed the Super Bowl! Congrats to the Giants!   While screwing around on the Internet recently, I found a site with old Herald Statesman copies.  I found this front page, from June 23, 1966. That's Alan Hendron at the lower left, with Tommy Jay behind him. Danny Pelligrini is at the top.  It looks like Larry Wixon next to Danny, and Marie Bianchini to the right of center.

The  2011 Annual Dinner on October 17 was great fun!  Here's a picture. Thanks to everyone who helped make it a success!

Oh it's been awhile!  It's already time again for the Annual YourYonkers Dinner!!!!

It is set for MONDAY, OCTOBER 17, at 7:00 p.m., at the Yonkers Raceway Diner, 833 Yonkers Avenue (914) 969-4343).

These guys are supposed to BE THERE!!!! Do YOU know them?

I hope you are all ready for Spring!  'Sorry to hear about John Banker's stroke.  Frank Barbuto of www.frankbarrchairs.com, learned about this site in December.  His brother, Joe Barr (Joey Barbuto), now lives in Ohio, and he sent me some pix recently, from around 1971. Check them out on "Joe Barr's Page."

Well, the dinner was GREAT FUN!  'Lots of catching up and laughing.  Here's a picture:

Can you name each of us?

Larry Preston was kind enough to send me some old videos.  Laurene wrote in and said that Mrs. Preston took most of the movies!  I created a YouTube channel and uploaded it there.  Click here and take a look:

Check out the new page we added: "Larry Preston's Memories."

I had a great dinner the other night with Peppy (a/k/a Robert Palladino), at City Limits, in White Plains.  We caught up on a lot of news!

We'd like to know if anyone is interested in getting together for a bite at some local "Yonkuz diner"?

Hi, everyone!

Some brief updates.

I rarely say this: stay away from Cross County Shopping Center!  So much construction!  And the traffic and everything is not being handled well.

There's a GIANT mound of dirt in the parking lot near Applebee's. It's so big, and has been there so long, that it has stuff growing in it!

A walkway to the Mall at Cross County. With the new traffic lights and temporary cones, you take your life in your hands crossing!

Behind China Wok there's a dying tree and ripped up dirt.

To be fair, the new parking lot, and updated decor is nice. But they changed the traffic patterns and, so far, they suck.

Tibbetts has sure changed!!!

From this:

There's a splashy bucket thing for kids:

The snack area is the same, just updated;

A new volleyball court:

I floated majestically down the "Lazy River":

The Lincoln High School Class of '65 is having a reunion!  October 2, 2010.

'Ran smack into Phil McEnerney today!  He works at  the Greenburgh Town Hall. I was there to tape a cable-access TV show.  He and Sissy are well.  Phil is now a GRANDFATHER!

Hi, Everybody!  I hope you are enjoying this great spring weather.  We deserve it, after that nasty winter.

We recently heard from George Gerundo and Dennis Torreggiani!  Amazing!

I recently went to the Bronx Zoo for lunch.  That was a common trip for kids from our neighborhood.  A lot has changed, but alot has stayed the same, too, there.  If you can, try to cut some time out and check out the zoo.

'Good to hear from Anne McGrail Synan and Timothy Synan.  I always remembered Jimmy McGrail's birthday, March 10, because it was the day after mine.

If you want to see some cool pictures, go to tibbetsbrookmemories.blogspot.com.  It's a blog about Tibbets Brook!

'Enjoy the spring!!!!

Wow!  Can you believe it's 2010?! I have been keeping busy.  I have been able to get in some recording, and some jamming with my old band, in New Jersey, and have also played at a few parties.

It is wonderful to see, in the Guestbook, that Jimmy Romeo has been "found" in Bronxville, with his family.

Louis Paonessa, Toni's brother, also wrote in.  He lives in Florida, now, as so many of us do!  'Sorry, but I can't pass your email address to Brian, because I can't convince him to get a computer!

Kathy Montoro also "checked in" this month.  The people "by the car," in the National Speedway photo, are: Richie Bengel, Laurine Preston and Danny Pelligini.  To my left is Agnes McGrath, who went to St Barnabas.

'Have a great 2010, everbody!!!

'Had an hour or so to kill today, so I went to Mark Twain, and got some exercise.  I didn't go to school there, but a lot of my friends did.  I took a few pictures to show the folks who have moved away:

Here's the "new" front.  They re-designed it several years ago.

The south side of the school now says "Montessori School II."

This is one of the newer buildings,  built on a part of the the athletic field that we used to play on.

This particular playground was the scene of some fierce roller hockey games, "back in the day."  I remember playing here with Alan Hendron, Larry Wixon, Brian Alama, Danny Pelligrini and many others.

The ball fields look the same.  I played tons of baseball games here with the East Yonkers Athletic League.  'Played some football here, too.  Teenage pitcher, Gordon Feathers, hit me in the left arm with a fastball here, in 1964 or so.

Went to the car show at Yonkers Raceway yesterday. Check it out:

It was a big show - over 500 cars!

There was a '57 Chevy there, just like the one Brian Alama used to own.

This Cobra was nice!!

A nice dragster!

The gamblers just kept playing!

It's OCTOBER?!  Already?  Apparently, time flies, whether you are having fun or not.  I hope everybody is ready for the fall.

I want to thank some people who have written in, or signed the Guestbook.  Specifically, Ronnie Pittelli, Alan Hendron, Anna Pierdiluca, John Neumann, Karen Cali, Phil McEnerney, Al Masciotti, Robert Palladino, Larry Wixon, Vicki Murray and George Theophall. I know I left some people out, and I am sorry. You can read their posts, by the way, by just clicking on the Guestbook link at the left.

I also want to remind everyone that I created a Forum on this site. Once you register, you can easily post messages, and have people respond.  It's a great way to keep in touch.

I hope to post some pictures and stuff soon.

Take care!

'Hope you are all having a great summer!  Hopefully, the weather will get better, soon!

I have been super busy.  'Hope everyone is well. We have been having a very cool, wet June, so far.  Enjoy it.  Soon, the heat of summer will be here!

'Hope everyone is fine out there!  I was in downtown Manhattan yesterday, on Vesey Street. I took Metro North, from Mount Vernon West, "like in the old days."  'Sorry I haven't had time to update the site in awhile.  'Just a little too busy, at the moment.

'Just like to let you folks know that I was re-booked at the Bo Cafe in Dobbs Ferry, for January 3, 2009, at 7:00 p.m.

'Had a lot of fun playing at the Bo!

'Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!!  (I cannot believe that Mt. St. Michael lost to Cardinal Hayes in their annual football game!)

If you are free Friday night, December 5, come on down to the Bo Cafe, in Dobbs Ferry.  I am booked to play guitar there, at 8:00 p.m., for a short show.

Also, I want to send a big 'thank you' to Karen Cali, John Neumann, and Phil McEnerney, for giving us a shout in the Guestbook recently.

The weather has turned really nice.  I was just writing to Patti Neumann, in Nevada, who was complaining about 107 degree temperatures there: "We are getting beautiful spring days in Yonkers, like when we were kids together, with cool breezes and the smell of flowers and trees on the wind.  New little birds and squirrels are everywhere.  But the economy sucks, blah, blah, blah, yadda, yadda, yadda."

I ran into George Theophall last night. I walked into the Burger King on Central Avenue, across from the Cross County Shopping Center, and there he was, big as life!  His hair is whiter now, as is mine.  But he looked great, just as he did the last time I saw him about 20 years ago.  He runs his own repairing and remodeling business.  If you need anything fixed, call 914-262-5567.

Also alive and well is Dom Vigna, in upstate New York.  He is married, has put in 38 years with the County of Westchester, and is RETIRING in about 6 months!  Congrats, Dom!!

Thanks for stopping by!

658 'hits'?! Wow.  We keep growing.  Thanks for your  interest.

We added two pictures of our visit to White Castle, for lunch, yesterday.  I had not been there for a few years.  It brought back a lot of memories for me.

We also added a few pictures from last weekend, when the Pope came to Yonkers.  There wasn't much to see from Seminary Avenue, but check out "The Pope's Arrival" page for the photos.

We recently put up three new pictures on a new page called "A Few More Old Pix."  'Be sure and check them out.  We also posted some additional "News" and the answer to another of those "Who ARE These People?!" pictures.
